I am still on the go with several assignments. One enjoyable change as a travel has been the weather...... it has been quite beautiful and enjoyable to see gardens in bloom. My focus this month: ATTITUDE.

It colours everything we think, see, touch, and say. Yet many people seem to give way the right to determine "THEIR" attitude for the day. They let circumstances get in the way of their day by blaming others for just about anything, or make an excuse about what, when why something has happened. People just do not see that the power of their response to people and situations are up to them.

"Attitude starts in the Thoughts and is express openly from the HEART"

FOCUS!

I have been quite swamped for the last several weeks with several marketing assignments. With this schedule, I have had to FOCUS on the most efficient way to get the most successful and precise outcome from each task. It has been also fun because I am meeting new people from all over the country. I look at this as a new education as well as an adventure!

FOCUS is my new motto for the coming month. I visualize my success in every tasks and new meeting. I see that each event will not only strengthen me, but be necessary to move to the next level. And yes there are some hectic times....

But I now look forward to tackling these times. Not but a month ago, I was telling a colleague that the strain of NO assignments was quite depressing. After attending a conference the following day, I left it with several new business contacts and events to work on.

How circumstances can change in a day.

And thankfully for the better!!

The Meaning of LIFE!

Oh Well.. In the last few weeks America and the World has seen the fight for life drama of Terri Shiavo and passing of Pope John Paul II. Other notables have also passed away too: Johnnie Cochrane and Mitch Hedberg. In the media reporting of these passings, I could only sit and ponder about the meaning of one's life. I mean that according to US Courts, it is OK to strave someone to death because they are disabled? I still cannot come to grips with this decision.

The Pope gracefully left us after a lengthy illness, he will be missed.

Johnnie Cochrane left us with a magnificent career and an example for future leaders and lawyers to follow. ( He was more than O.J.'s lawyer)

Mitch Hedberg, a brilliant comic gone too soon.

We ALL will leave an impression of our lives on our loved ones and those we come in contact everyday. For some people, their lives are impacted by people they have only read about or seen on film, in the news or from afar. The question I have to myself is : What do I want to be my mission statements & How can I make a significant difference leaving this world a better place??

I am sure that in some way the these people thought about these very questions.

And they did leave prominent impressions and mission statements that will be talked about for years and generations to come.

Shiavo Bill: OK What's Next????

And the situation continues to unfold..............

* 3/30/05:The case has bounced from Florida to Georgia to the Supreme Court and the cycle has repeated at least 2 times, all the courts ruling against Terri's parents and their request to have her feeding tube attached. Terri is going into her 13th day without it. The Reverend Jesse Jackson has stated the Terri's civil right are being violated.Other nationally known leaders have also expressed this same view. I still believe that a medical and legal definition in regards to this level of disability need to be made so that in the future this issue can be handled more respectfully.

Well now President Bush signed the Shiavo Bill, but a Florida federal judge has decided that Terri's tube should not be reattached. In my earlier blog I stated that this case has turned into an fortunate soap opera and that Congress should have long ago decided to do something. I do not feel that Congress should be involved in any families personal business. However this case will have long lasting decisions about the care of people in a non ambulatory situations. This case affect us ALL now.

If Congress really want to have Michael and Terri Shiavo to "appear" before a Senate Health Committee, then maybe a clear definition about the Right to Life Issue will become clear medically and most important legally. Also in play is Congress intervention into this matter,the power between the government, federal,state court ruling and personal freedom, this is a test case and one to learn from......

We all need to pay attention to what is really going on here

Shiavo Asked To Appear Before Congress

In a dramatic race to stop her execution, The United States Senate has asked Teri and Michael Shiavo to appear before the Senate Health Committee to review health policies and procedure that affect non-ambulatory patients who receive long term care. The United States House of Representatives have also decided to respond by launching an investigation into the case and issuing congressional subpoenas to doctors that remove her feeding tube.

But her tube was removed anyway!

Now on Palm Sunday, President Bush is set to fly to Washingthon, DC to sign a Bill to get Teri's feeding tube reattached.

As of Sunday, the House and Senate could not agree on whether this whole "right to life issue" should be decided by the federal courts.

What a MESS!

By very early Monday morning March 21st, President Bush signed The Shiavo Bill putting life decisions in this case back into the federal courts.

Senator Bill Frist said that harming a person that is to testify before Congress is against the law.

Teri's parents had also petitioned the judge in Tampa Florida to review state court decisions in this case. It was the state House and Senate that decided that Teri's feeding tubes be removed. Even Jeb Bush is against the state's legal decision.

All I can say is it is about time that Congress decided to take action. Although the federal measures are late in the game, Teri is an unfortunate participant in confusing state laws, federal, congressional interest and a country that should be protecting the most vulnerable citizens.

Not killing them!

Point:

Since 1990 Teri has been in a coma due to a medical condition. And yes her husband Michael Shiavo has a right to move on with his life, it has been 15 year now.

But

Teri's care should be transferred to her parents and loved ones, Michael should grant that out of love and respect for Teri and move on with his life.

But not at the expense of Teri's

March 7th of this year marked 40th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama. The purpose of the march was to go to the state capital and petition for citizens right to vote. The marches met with resistance from state troopers who attacked the marchers with teargas and billyclubs beating many to unconsciousness and critical injuries. The American television media transmitted to the rest of the country and the world what became to be called "Bloody Sunday". This event and other incidents, many unfortunately fatal, moved then President Lyndon Johnson to sign the 1965 Voting Rights Bill.

I was not on this planet when the Civil Rights Movement started. Starting in the early nineteenth century The 13th,14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution,Blanche K. Bruce, P.B.S. Pinchback, Hiram Revels, court cases like Dred Scott, laws like Jim Crow, Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington,W. E. B. Dubois, negro and immigrant lynchings in the nineteenth century, Red Summer, organizations like the NAACP, The Negro Improvement Association led by Marcus Garvey, Edward Brooke, Mary McLeod Bethune, A. Philip Randolph, Harlem Renaissance, Thurgood Marshall, Harrry T, and Harriette V. Moore, Rev. George Lee, Brown vs Board of Education, Lamar Smith, Emmett Till, Rosa Parks, Willie Edwards, The Montgomery Bus Boycott, Public Accomodation Sit Ins, James Meredith, Little Rock, Church Bombings: "Four Little Girls", Virgil Lamar Ware, March on Washington, Medgar Evers, Freedom Summer, Schwerner, Chaney and Goodman, James Reeb, Jimmie Lee Jackson, Viola Liuzzo.......

Other Hero's we rarely hear about, but are also important:

Vernon Dahmer: killed for registering people to vote; Wharlest Jackson:killed for being the 1st black to be promoted on his job; and I just read about Carol Jenkins: killed while selling encyclopedia's door to door in an all white neighborhood...

They ALL lost their lives after 1965, for everyday freedoms that I have now!

I am shocked by these events

There are many events and inspiring people I cannot recall who laboured in the 100 years since the first civil and voting rights act of 1865 and years before that. Many lives lost, literacy tests, and diligent souls that worked "HEART and SOUL" to make the lives of today's generation so much better.

Point..

My hope is for renewed interest in this history so that the spirit of progress and hope can be carried on to inspire future generations to perserverance thur obstacles and see a vision of success.

Let us not forget!

The Social Secuity Saga March 15th 2005

What an issue..... Social Security. It affects millions of retirees, elderly, disabled and now future generations. President Bush's Plans for Life Accounts is now causing heated debate nationally about the future of Social Security. And the question of how 50 million people with disabilities on SSI and SSDI will be affected by these changes. Last Fall state medicaid cut out funding for recipients that needed name brand medications. And there will be further cuts that will affect accesss to quality medical care.

I know that many would agree with me when I say that the cost of healthcare and especially prescription drugs is OUTRAGEOUS! I would be all for some change in Social Security if affordable healthcare for Social Security recipients was a part of the program. But Life Accounts are no guarentee that monies would be saved for present and future citizens.

We need a healthy working population to move the country forward. Without protecting Social Security, SSI and 7.6 million American citizens on SSDI, quality of life is left more vulnerable.

**** Point to Ponder... What kind of society and workforce are we going to build the present and future economy with if our ability to stay healthy is compromised??
